Last minute Mary!

What a brave lady we have here!  After only three weeks in school, Megan stepped in as 'Mary' at the last minute.  No one would have realised that she hadn't been Mary from the first rehearsal.  Well done, Megan!

Victorian cross stitch

During their topic on Victorians, Travis, Rosie, Jasmine and Annie have tried their hand at cross stitch.  The results are very impressive and they are justifiably proud of their work.  Excellent sewing, folks!

Advent comprehension

Lacey has really impressed Mrs Brown with her amazing comprehension skills.  She read the questions carefully and used a highlighter to show where the answers were.  She cold have written the answer sheet herself!  Great progress, Lacey!

And they all lived ...!

We are DELIGHTED that Ty is a Special Achiever for a very special book!  Her story is exciting, is easy to read because she has listened carefully for the sounds she needs, and she wrote it all by herself.  (It's also got the best ending in the world!!)  Super writing, Ty!

Why did he huff and puff?

Here's a very clever lady!  Alice has written a letter to the Big Bad Wolf to find out why he was so mean.  Not only has she asked a question, but she has also used a question mark.  It is hard to believe she is still in Reception!  Great work, young lady!

Oliver!

It really shows that Mia and Levi took their time over their descriptions of Fagin's Den.  They have used some very mature descriptive phrases and beautiful similes to create an atmospheric impression of the scene that met Oliver.  Super work!

You'll never guess what happened!

These diary entries have been beautifully written by Oslo and Amy who have chosen some amazing vocabulary and phrases that really make you want to read all about what happened during their day.  Who would have thought that they would bump into a caveman?  Great writing, folks!

Jack defeats the giant!

Lewis-Lloyd has shown how carefully he was listening to the story of Jack and the Beanstalk by the details he has included in his storyboard to retell what happened.  He is very proud that he did this work ALL BY HIMSELF, and so he should be!  Well done, Lewis-Lloyd!

Two halves

Libby-Anne has been doubly smart with her maths work.  Not only does she know the names of these shapes, but she worked all by herself to fold them carefully so that she could find half of each one.  What a clever lady!

Wanted!

There are some very dodgy characters about - not Immy or Abigail, but the pirates they would like us to keep an eye out for!  They have written such detailed descriptions, using fabulous adjectives, you will definitely know them if you see them.  Great writing, girls!

We will remember ...

It is wonderful to know that Elle, Mason, Rachel, Isobel, Charlie and Sam have taken Remembrance Day so seriously.  Their acrostic poems really quite moving with carefully chosen vocabulary and beautiful phrases they certainly make you stop and think.  Amazing work, people!

Once upon a time ...

Rhys and Sam are looking very pleased with themselves because they have worked brilliantly together to type up Rhys' version of Little Red Riding Hood.  It is a gripping story about Archie, so see them if you need a bedtime story.  Great team work, gentlemen!

Thursday 10 November 2016

Rising to the challenge!

I can see a future in the games industry for Arman and Marcy - their maths games are A-MAZ-ING!  Arman chose a theme of sushi, while Marcy wanted us to go on a monster hunt with their ingenious ideas, and we really enjoyed playing them.  What clever ways to practise your number skills!

Thursday 3 November 2016

Well I never ...!

Did you know that there is a caveman living in a cave, and none of us has realised!  Well, not until someone fell down a hole and found him.  Just read Holly's, Connor's, Callum's or Phoebe's newspaper accounts and you will find out who, when, where and what!  They have included some great quotations as well.

Are you sitting comfortably?

Logan, Dovydas, Evie, Preston and Niamh have written some super stories and have chosen some really clever words and phrases to make their writing interesting for the reader.  What very grown-up work, folks!

Her Majesty's Inspectors

I am glad Erhan and Amber didn't come and inspect our school!  In their Victorian School Inspector reports, it is very clear that they were NOT impressed by what they saw - dusty classrooms, unruly boys, and as for the singing ...!  These are very clever pieces of work that show how much they have learned during their Victorian topic.  Superb work!

Little Canada, Big Adventure

Here are four more children who LOVED going to Little Canada!  You can tell how much they enjoyed their week from the huge amount of work they have put into recording every activity they did.  Well done, lady and gentlemen!

Rollicking good reads!

Need a good read?  You'll be spoiled for choice with these book reviews by Megan, Blythe, Jack, Max, Darcie, Shannon and Lucy.  They have put a huge amount of effort into describing their favourite book and then including different activities to engage the potential reader.  I loved reading your reviews, let alone your recommended books!

Shape superstars

Meet our shape superstars!  Even though Zane and Saule have only been coming to our school for few weeks they know the names of lots of shapes.  Zane made his shapes out of string, while Saule has made a beautiful flag.  It is wonderful that they are achievers already!

Super subtraction

Sian, Oliver, Blossom, Freddie, Oscar, Leo and Archie are our latest mathematical geniuses!  They can take away numbers from other numbers by counting backwards - and not losing track of where they had got to.  Brilliant thinking, folks!

Caveman Adventures

Stuck for something to do this weekend?  You need to go and visit Charlie's or Willow's new caveman theme park.  Their detailed descriptions and use of interesting vocabulary make these sound like a really great day out for all the family.  I can't wait!

Happy birthday to you!

I am sure the Queen will be delighted with these celebrations of her birthday.  Thomas' fantastic drawing of the Red Arrows and Jaicob's beautiful picture of a marching soldier show how carefully they have been looking at pictures on the internet.  Well done, lads!

Thursday 6 October 2016

Where do you belong?

James, Finley, Chanya and Amy have been talking about 'Belonging' in their lessons.  They have composed a beautiful song about how different people belong in different places and in different groups.  I can't wait to hear it set to music!  Great work!

Dear Diary

You only need to read the first few sentences of these children's Little Canada diaries to know how much Max, Laylah, Yasmine, Sophie and Millie enjoyed their week on the Isle of Wight.  They have included so much detail, they will be able to relive their memories for many years to come.  Great work, folks!

Where are the Hedgehogs?

George has been looking for his classmates, but they have all been hiding, just like Spot's friends.  Thank goodness he took photos of them when he found them so that he could make this book!  Look out, Eric Hill - you have serious competition here!

Good advice

Luke has shown how fantastic he is at using his phonics.  You can read every word he has written in this set of instructions about how to look after the book corner.  I think every classroom could do with a copy of this.  Great writing, Luke!

What a houseful!

Our first Special Achiever!  Florence has started the year by showing how much she LOVES writing.  Super spelling, great adjectives and lots of detail - what a genius!  Well done, Cleverclogs!

Play script

Not only has Kieran written a fabulous play script, he has also used a pink polishing pen to edit his work.  I was very impressed by the way he showed the need for question marks rather than full stops. Superb work!

Coming to a cinema near you!

These three superstars have written some amazing stories about Iron Man's return - soon to be made into films, apparently!  Lucy, Rochella and Stevie's vocabulary choices certainly make for a gripping read, and the blurbs on the back really draw you in.  Great work, folks!

Marvellous movie

Olivia, Kevin and Harvey (photo to follow) have produced an amazing Olympic promo.  They have combined different effects and techniques to convey the drama of the original Olympic Games and compiled them into a superb video.  Well done, folks!

A spoonful of sugar!

I think this is the most beautiful recipe I have ever read, Sophie!  She has thought really hard about what makes one of her friends so special, and found a measure for each attribute.  This is a super piece of work.  Well done you!

High drama in Ancient Greece

It wasn't easy being an Olympian, as these four chaps have very cleverly shown us in their impressive iMovie.  In about a minute and a half, the music, stills, videos and costumes really capture the drama of the challenges the Ancient Greeks endured.  Great work, Thomas, Connor, James and Teddy!

20/20

There's being able to spell, and there's being able to spell, and this lady can certainly spell!  Not many children in the country can say they got everyone of the twenty spellings correct in their SATs - but Grace can.  Super effort!

A Leading Digital Leader

This young lady is what Digital Leaders are all about.  Not only has she helped out around school, testing apps, checking iPads and laptops, and supporting the learning of others, but she has represented the school at the Norfolk Show.  Take a look at the BBC Voices website.  Thanks for all you have done, Melissa!

Bring it on!

It is amazing to see how much Fabian has matured this year.  It hasn't always been like this, but now when he is given a tricky piece of work to complete, he takes on the challenge with a determination to succeed - and succeed well!  A great attitude to take with you to high school, Fabian.  Well done!

ALERT!

How about this for making a powerful impact?  Harmony has used her amazing artistic talent to turn Fritha's online safety message into this stunning, eye-catching poster to make sure everyone at Roydon understands how to keep themselves safe on the internet.  Thank you, Harmony!

Super spelling

What a long way Luke has come in the last year!  He has learned so many letter sounds and high frequency words, he can now write 'the', 'nip', 'no', 'go', 'and' and Dad - all by himself.  Genius man!

As spiky as a ...

Florence is very prod of her writing - and rightly so!  Here she is holding two pages of writing about leaves and plants, and her work is packed full of similes and metaphors, and she did this writing all by herself.  What a busy lady!

Thursday 7 July 2016

Lovely life cycles

I don't think I have ever seen such beautiful pictures to show the life cycle of a butterfly!  Preston, Zenna and Oscar can describe the process as well and their writing includes fantastic spelling - and adjectives!  It is hard to remember that these clever people are still in Reception.  Super work!

Stars of the Norfolk Show!

You can tell how much these folks enjoyed our whole school visit to the Norfolk Show by the fabulous writing they have done about it and all the details they have included.  Luke, Brandon, Kaydon and Chloe have all listened REALLY carefully to the sounds in the words they wanted to write and you can read all the words they have written.  Well done, folks!

Thursday 30 June 2016

The first Olympics

Well, I've certainly learned a lot about the first Olympics from this fabulous research by Oscar.  He has included so many interesting and little-known facts in this beautifully presented piece of writing, no wonder he is a special achiever.  Super work, Oscar!

Out of this world

Not only has Samuel created a fantastic chalky space picture, he has also written some amazing sentences to annotate it.  He has chosen some very mature vocabulary and has even included some alliteration.  What an absolute genius!

Here comes the summer ...

When you look at this picture you can't help but feel summery!  Logan has included a beach hut, a beach ball, a sun lounger and a beautiful green sandcastle.  I hope the sun shines as brightly during our holidays!  Great work, Logan!

Thursday 23 June 2016

Natural History

Harry and Jack had an amazing time at the Natural History Museum last week, and this writing really shows how much they enjoyed their visit.  The way they have described their experience really shows how much they learned.  Fantastic work, chaps!

Wednesday 22 June 2016

Welcome to Roydon!

We don't need to worry about passing on information to new Year 5 and 6 children starting at our school.  Natalie, Oliver, Ruby and Christian have prepared these fabulous leaflets to tell them everything they need to know about our school.  What a lot of details they have included!

Impressive improvement

Wow!  This is a most impressive improvement in understanding spelling, grammar and punctuation.  Morgan's latest assessment shows that he has learned a huge amount during this year and his hard work has really paid off.  Well done you!
